Recreation Divisions & Rules

SPIRIT CHAMPIONSHIPS OFFERS DIVISIONS FOR REC TEAMS, SCHOOL TEAMS, ALLSTAR TEAMS AND DANCE TEAMS.

 

Spirit Championships Recreation Teams Division and Rules Guidelines


ALL AGES ARE BASED ON BIRTH YEAR for 2025-2026


Tiny 6 years old and under (Birth year 2018 and later)
Mini 8 years old and under (Birth year 2016 and later)

Pee Wee 10 years old and under (Birth year 2014 and later)
Youth 12 years old and under (Birth year 2012 and later)

Juniors 14 years old and under (Birth year 2010 and later)
Seniors 18u years old (6/1/2006 and later)

*Levels and Rules may vary from one competition brand to another. Please be sure to read the rules thoroughly to ensure you place your team in the correct division. If you are not certain which level your team falls please do not hesitate to contact us. We want to make sure all teams are placed in the correct division prior to event day.

 

Division Sizes
 

Recreation Divisions will be split small, medium and large when there are at least 2 teams left in each division.

•Small = 5-19 members

•Large = 20-36 members
 

We reserve the right to add, delete or combine divisions based on enrollment.
 

The Following rules apply to both Traditional Rec and Performance Rec Divisions:
 

·        Total routine time cannot exceed 2.5 minutes.
 

·        Timing begins with the first organized movement and/or first word of cheer or beat of dance.
 

·        Organized entrances that involve cheers or run on with jumps, tumbling or stunts are not permitted. Cheerleaders should enter the performance area in a timely fashion.
 

·        Timing will end with holding of the final movement, pyramid or stunt.
 

·        Partner stunts and pyramids are permitted by level guidelines.
 

·        Routines should be choreographed so that the routine flows from one segment to the next.
 

·        Gymnastics and jumps are permitted and encouraged by level guidelines.
 

·        There are to be no props used in the routine with the exception of signs, pom pons, flags and megaphones.
 

·        Performance Rec and Traditional Rec Teams must follow the U.S.A.S.F. Rules.
 

·        All routines should be appropriate for family viewing. Any vulgar or suggestive movements, words, or music will result in a score deduction. No tear-away uniforms or removal of clothing is allowed.

All teams must classify as one of the following:

GAME DAY

  • The program must be affiliated with, report to, and be governed by an organization such as YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, City/County Parks and Rec Program, Pop Warner Association, or other community run program not associated with All Star.
  • Each team must cheer for a sport during the 2023-2024 cheer season.
  • MAY NOT crossover to a Performance Division.
  • MAY NOT have another team in Performance Recreation.
  • Routines must include a cheer.
  • No tosses allowed.
  • Will follow USASF Allstar Prep Rules. 


TRADITIONAL REC

  • The program must be affiliated with, report to, and be governed by an organization such as YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, City/County Parks and Rec Program, Pop Warner Association, or other community run program not associated with All Star.
  • Each team must cheer for a sport during the 2023-2024 cheer season.
  • Athletes MAY NOT cross from a Traditional Rec Cheer team to Performance Rec Cheer team.
  • Routines may be a Cheer & Music combination. 
  • No tosses allowed.
  • Will follow USASF Allstar Prep Rules.


PERFORMANCE REC

  • Organization may be independent of town/city organization/clubs. Team does not necessarily cheer for a supported, sports program.
  • Athletes MAY NOT cross from a Performance Rec Cheer team to a Traditional Rec Cheer team.
  • Routines may be a Cheer & Music combination. 
  • Will follow USASF Allstar Elite Rules.
    • Exception: Level 4 - Fulls are allowed in running tumbling only and will be counted toward the running tumbling difficulty and technique scores

Novice (Non-Building) - Tiny, Mini  

Level 1- Tiny, Mini, Pee wee, Youth, Junior

Level 2 – Youth, Junior


Traditional Rec Levels


  • Routines may be a Cheer & Music combination. 
  • No tosses allowed.
  • Will follow USASF Allstar Prep Rules.


Novice Non-Building - Tiny, Mini

Level 1- Tiny, Mini, Pee wee, Youth, Junior, Senior

Level 2.1 – Pee wee, Youth, Junior, Senior

Level 2 – (Pee wee, Youth, Junior, Senior

Level 3.1- Youth, Junior, Senior

Exhibition - 18 and under

  • Athletes MAY NOT cross from a Performance Rec Cheer team to a Traditional Rec Cheer team.
  • Routines may be a Cheer & Music combination. 
  • Will follow USASF Allstar Elite Rules.

Level Appropriate Guidelines for Levels 1-4

Spirit Championships offers no refunds due to withdrawal or no show to one of our events.  If Spirit Championships cancels or moves an event, fees paid can be transferred.
